ABC Student Development creates a holistic educational environment that encourages students to grow spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

Study and Community

PACE is a unique adult learning community. Students are typically working professionals who gather together one night per week to progress through their educational programs with a small cohort of peers. The PACE format creates rich learning experiences and relationships as students share the journey with their peers, instructors, and ABC staff.

All instructors, staff, and students adopt ABC’s Community Rule of Life, which describes who we are as we relate to God, creation, other people, and ourselves.

Spiritual Formation

We recognize that the PACE students live most of their lives off campus with significant family, employment, and ministry commitments already in place. However, ABC desires that PACE students experience much more than classroom learning as part of their student life. We strive to foster an educational experience that is also spiritually formative.

At the beginning of each course, students, instructors, and staff gather for PACE chapel, during which they connect over refreshments, participate in music, and hear and respond to Scripture. These times are often led by PACE students.

All instructors, staff, and students are active participants in a local church community. We also regularly engage in prayer, Scripture reading, and other spiritual practices.

Physical Well-being

ABC encourages each member of the PACE community to honour God with their bodies as they live out their weekly routine. We do this as we develop healthy eating habits, exercise regularly, allow ourselves adequate sleep, and practice Sabbath.

ABC’s full-sized gymnasium and exercise space are both available to PACE students as an outlet for physical activity.

Intellectual Growth

Student Development works in conjunction with the Academic Dean and the Academic Services team to foster student success and offer supports where needed.

Emotional Health

Life as an adult student can be an emotionally complex journey, and sometimes a listening ear or spiritual friend can breathe life into a weary soul. Each PACE student has access to our Student Development chaplain, who provides spiritual care and referrals to community resources as needed.

Social Development

Informal connection times between students, instructors, and staff occur each week during coffee time, as well as before and after class. PACE students are also invited to participate in all student development events hosted by the college including the Fall Retreat (September), Christmas Banquet (December), and Prayer Retreat (January). PACE students pay fees for these events as they are able to participate.
